On January 26, Nyenga’s hardworking ladies and the rest of Uganda celebrated “Liberation Day”, the day Museveni took power. This year the president traveled around the Nyenga area. He stopped and gave a speech in the area where the ladies sell tomatoes by the roadside.
To everyone’s surprise, he gave them 5 million Ugandan shillings, the equivalent of 2 years’ wages. New sales stalls are now being built, which will be painted white and the range of vegetables will be expanded. It is always wonderful to “win the lottery” and this time it was women in our vicinity who got paid for their hard work and long days.
